In conversation with... The Leaders Club

In October 2024, Mike Mansfield, our CEO, was invited to present findings from our report on multigenerational working to a meeting of the Leaders Club. Watch here:

The Leaders Club, founded in 2008, brings together a diverse group of leaders to share and evaluate their leadership experiences at the peak of their careers. In October 2024, they invited Mike Mansfield to discuss the business case for age inclusion in the workplace and the importance of promoting multigenerational collaboration.

With increasing longevity and declining birth rates fundamentally affecting society and the labour market, we are not adapting quickly enough to take advantage of these changes. In the UK, there are 3.5 million individuals aged 50 to 64 who are economically inactive, many of whom would consider returning to work if the conditions were right.

During an engaging discussion, Mike outlined what organisations have done and are planning to do to prepare for an ageing workforce. We examined the vital role of corporate culture in creating an environment that is welcoming for older workers, highlighting that a one-size-fits-all solution is not sufficient. Job design and new ways of working can enable individuals, particularly those in more physically demanding roles, to continue working for longer.
